Haden Jersey Kettle Review

The Haden Jersey Kettle is a fast boil, energy efficient, cordless stainless steel kettle with a temperature gauge on its side. The Jersey Kettle has a rather retro design which is akin to what you would have seen in the 1970s. Feature-wise the Jersey Kettle is modern. We go into detail later, but at a glance, it's electric, provides a fast boil, has a filter, 360 degree base and boil dry protection.

As mentioned, the kettle has a compact classic/retro design. The body is made from stainless steel which is strong and sturdy. Having a metal body will please people concerned about plastic contact and the chemical BPA. The handle, rather than being horizontal and attached to the side of the kettle, is over the top of the kettle. The spout is an easy pour spout which is made from polished stainless steel.

Temperature Dial

Unlike the vast majority of kettles out there, the Jersey Kettle has a temperature dial on the side. This is particularly handy if you like your tea or coffee brewed at a specific temperature. Dials are an old way of measuring, and having a dial on the side of the kettle adds to its retro feel.

Haden, originally a bicycle producer, have been around since the 19th century. They moved into motorbikes and then into manufacturing kettles in the 1940s. They've since moved into toasters, microwaves, mixers, salt & pepper milling sets, bread bins and more. They're known for their innovative, durable and high quality products.

• Capacity - 1.5 Litres. Around about 6 cups. Good for large families and gatherings. Also suitable for the workplace.

• Temperature Dial - The temperature dial on the side is discussed above. It ranges from 0 to 100 degrees Celsius.
• Filter - The kettle has a limescale filter. It results in better looking and tasting drinks. It's also removable and can easily be washed under a tap.
• Energy Efficient - There's a see through water window which has cup markers. You can therefore fill the kettle with the amount of water you require to bring down the boiling time and also help you save electricity.
• Lift Off Lid - To help with filling and cleaning, the lid simply lifts off. This is preferable to hinged lids as they have tendency to break.
• 360 Degree Base - The kettle has a 360 degree base meaning the kettle can be placed on the base at any angle. It also allows the kettle to be cordless so the kettle can be moved to any place in the house. Such a base is suitable for left and right handers alike.
• Illuminating Power Switch - When boiling, the power switch will illuminate.
• Boil Dry Protection - The kettle will not boil itself dry. Instead it will shut off automatically if the water level drops too low.

All in all a decent kettle. If you're looking for a retro themed kettle with modern luxuries then look no further. It definitely has a 1970s vibe in terms of design, as contributed to by the compact round shape, the top handle and the good old fashioned temperature dial.
