Morphy Richards Illumination Kettle Review

The Morphy Richards Illumination Kettle is a slender jug kettle. Its main feature is the perforated metal band around the bottom of the kettle where a calming blue illumination will shine through when the kettle's boiling. As the kettle is modern, it's been designed with plenty of contemporary features such as rapid boiling, a fine mesh limescale filter and boil dry protection.

The design is such that the kettle will suit most modern kitchens. If your kitchen has a darker theme, then there is a black edition of this kettle. The white and black models are pictured side by side together below:

The handle has been designed so that when the kettle is being held, it naturally tilts forward slightly, making pouring easier. The lift off lid is easy to use and allows for a thorough clean. With a lift off lid there's no hinge mechanism which can break, therefore kettles with lift off lids are more durable.

From a functionality point of view, the kettle has the following:

• Capacity - 1.7 Litres, which is enough for around 7 cups depending on their size. This makes the kettle perfect for family gatherings and large offices.
• Dimensions - 25.6cm x 22.2cm x 20.6cm.
• Rapid Boil - Inside the kettle is a powerful 3kW heating element designed to boil water in the shortest possible time.
• Lift Off Lid - The lid has a ring attached to it. It can easily be lifted off and the kettle filled.
• 360 Degree Base - The kettle comes with a 360 degree base meaning it can be positioned on the base at any angle. It's very handy as you don't have to line the kettle up with the base each time you finish with it.
• Boil Dry Protection - There's no danger of the kettle boiling dry and it being damaging as the kettle is designed to detect such an occurrence and stop the boiling process automatically.

Water Filter

Before reaching your cup, any water that comes out of the spout passes through a fine mesh limescale filter. This filter prevents limescale from entering your cup which makes your drink taste better. It also reduces drink discolouration caused by limescale.

Water Window

By the handle is a see through water window with water level markings on. 2 cups, 4 cups, 6 cups and the 1.7 litre maximum are marked. It allows you to boil only what you need, resulting in a quicker boil and a lower electricity bill.

Summary

All in all, not a bad kettle. The large calming blue illumination certainly stands out and completes the design. The shape of the kettle is slender and sleek, and the angled handle makes for easy tipping. Due to the modern design and two colours, the kettle most certainly matches most kitchens. The fact that matching toasters are available makes this kettle perfect if you're doing a kitchen redesign. All things considered, we give this kettle 4.5 out of 5 stars.
