The Morphy Richards Brita Filter Kettle
is a kettle by Morphy Richards which makes use of the Brita Maxtra Filter. It also features boil dry protection, a concealed heating element, a water gauge, a 360 degree base, a push button release lid and a water filter.
As far as capacity goes, it can boil up to 6 cups of water. Of course to save energy you probably would not boil that much all the time.
It comes in four colours, namely Black, White, Red and Brushed Stainless Steel.
Morphy Richards is an electrical appliance brand. They are located in South Yorkshire in England and also make toasters, bread makers and sandwich toasters. The kettle also has the following:
1. A Brita Maxtra Filter
. The Morphy Richards Brita Kettle comes with a Brita Maxtra Filter which is designed to filter impurities such as chlorine, copper, lead and limescale from the water. It is recommended that the filter be replaced every four weeks.
2. Boil Dry Protection
. Boil dry protection is when the kettle stops boiling once the water level has dropped below a certain point, either from it not being filled up enough or from too much water evaporating.
3. Concealed Heating Element
. The heating element is a looped metal rod that heats the water. This particular kettle, in a similar way to most modern kettles, hides its heating element to make the inside of the kettle easier to clean and to prevent limescale from building up on it.
4. 360 Degree Base
. The kettle comes with a 360 degree base. This means that the kettle can be placed on the base facing any direction which makes it usable by both left and right handed people. It also makes putting the kettle down easier too, particularly if it is heavy.
5. Water Level Indicator
. The kettle has a water level indicator (water gauge) to help you judge how much water is in the kettle and how much water you need. As you can see from the picture, it marks 1 cup, 2 cups, 4 cups and 6 cups.
6. Push Button Release Lid
. There is a button on top of the handle which, when activated, opens the lid. This allows you to fill the kettle easier. It also means that you can use the kettle with just one hand if you press the button with your thumb.
One disadvantage of this kettle is that it will not shut itself off when the water is boiled. You will need to use your own judgement as to when it is ready. You can however see the water through the water level indicator on the front so this will probably not be too much of a problem.
Durability and Maintenance
The kettle itself appears to be well made. There is no evidence to suggest any weaknesses in the design and none of the external fixtures seem like they will wear out quickly.
Maintaining the kettle is made slightly more difficult due to the Brita Maxtra Filters, although in my opinion having to change the filter every four weeks is well worth the effort if you want to have extremely clean water.
The kettle is tall, slim and sleek. As mentioned above, it is available in White, Black, Red and Brushed Stainless Steel. It is mostly made out of plastic. Special attention has been given to the handle to ensure that it is ergonomic, which essentially means that the designer has optimised it for human interaction.
In summary, the Morphy Richards Brita Filter Kettle is a high quality kettle which makes use of Brita Maxtra Filters. It has most of the features that you would expect including a concealed heating element, a water gauge and a push button lid.
