Our Review

The Tower Ombre Kettle is a sleek modern electric kettle with numerous features and a stylish ombre (faded gradient) finish. It's available in two colours - graphite steel (pictured) and copper steel. Both of these models have a brushed exterior. One of the more notable features of this kettle is the open handle design which makes it look more modern.

The body of the kettle is sturdy and strong, as is to be expected from stainless steel kettles. In terms of other features, the Tower Ombre Kettle has rapid boil technology, a fine mesh removable and washable limescale filter, a water gauge on the side, an illuminating power indicator and a concealed heating element.

About Tower

Tower is a long established brand of small kitchen appliances. It has been around for over 100 years and has quite the reputation behind it. They're known for their innovative designs. In fact, Tower were responsible for the first electric kettle with an immersed electric heating element. The also sell toasters, pressure cookers, microwaves, mini ovens, fryers, cannisters and more.

Specification

Let's now look at the features in more detail:

  • Capacity - 1.7 Litres, or around 7 cups. Perfect for a family gathering or a large office, particularly with the rapid boil feature.
  • Dimensions - 15.2cm x 21.2cm x 24.1cm.
  • Rapid Boil Technology - The 3kW element allows for rapid boiling. No longer will you have to wait for what seems like forever for a cup of tea. It also means you can grab a quick cup before leaving for work in the morning.
  • Limescale Filter - Inside the spout is a limescale filter. It's essential for the UK as tap water is saturated with minerals which form limescale. The filter can be removed and cleaned as needed. Simply rinse it under a tap.
  • Water Gauge - On the side of the kettle is a water gauge marking 0.5L (minimum), 0.8L, 1.2L and 1.7L (maximum).
  • Push Button Lid - There's a button on top of the handle for when you need to refill the kettle. Simply press it with your thumb while holding the handle and the hinged lid will open.
  • Power Indicator - When the kettle is boiling, the on/off switch will light up orange.
  • Concealed Heating Element - Under the floor of the kettle is the heating element. Having a concealed element means limescale will find it harder to form making the inside look much better, and also making the kettle much easier to clean.
  • Safety Features - The kettle has two main safety features. Firstly it has boil dry protection which means that it will not boil itself dry. Secondly it will automatically switch off when the water has boiled.

Matching Toaster and Cannisters

Tower sell kitchen products which match the Tower Ombre Kettle's design. Two of these include a matching toaster and matching cannisters (sugar/coffee/tea). The graphite toaster and kettle are pictured below together:

Summary

With all of the above taken into account, the Tower Ombre Kettle stands up to scrutiny. Both the graphite and copper designs look beautiful and at least one of them will match most kitchens. The kettle is clearly well made and durable, which is hardly surprising for a Tower kettle. The features are also on point both for reasons of practicality and safety. We rate the kettle 4.5 out of 5 stars.
