The Breville VKJ846 Stainless Steel Jug Kettle is a modern and stylish kettle. Featuring a stainless steel body, there's no need to worry about a lingering plastic after taste. One of the key selling points of this kettle compared to others is the "Still Hot" illumination. Essentially, if the kettle is above 80 degrees, it will illuminate red instead of blue. It's therefore easy to judge when the water is up to your desired temperature.

In terms of other features, the kettle is fairly standard. There's the usual limescale filter, 360 degree base, push button easy open lid, boil dry protection for safety and more.
The design is nothing unusual. The kettle is rather compact, with a stainless steel spout and black plastic handle which connects to the top and bottom of the kettle for extra sturdiness. There are water windows for convenience.
Breville is a leading brand of small home appliances. Started in Australia, they've broadened their appeal and now sell globally. They're a well known and trustworthy brand.
We now delve deep into the details:
A feature which, so far as we know, is only present in this particular kettle. When the kettle is boiling, there's a blue illumination which is standard for modern kettles. However, when this particular kettle has reached 80 degrees Celsius, it will illuminate red. It will continue to illuminate red until it has finished boiling and the temperature has dropped below 80 degrees. This is perfect for judging whether the kettle has reached the desired temperature, particularly when making herbal tea which does not require fully boiled water.
This feature is demonstrated below:
There's a thumb operated push button on the handle of the kettle. This opens the lid at a near 90 degree angle, so it can be easily filled and cleaned as required.
There's a limescale filter which is behind the spout. It's particularly useful in most places in England where there are substantial amounts of hard water present. It's also removable and washable under a tap.
Overall the Breville VKJ846 Stainless Steel Kettle is a solid choice. It's particularly handy if you're into herbal teas and the like as the additional red illumination makes it easy to judge the water temperature. The design itself is clean and compact, making it suitable for most kitchens, modern or otherwise. We rate this kettle 4 out of 5 stars.
