Haden Boston Kettle Review

The Haden Boston Kettle is a pyramid shaped kettle with a traditional style and modern features. Design-wise the kettle looks aesthetically appealing. It's the small things which make a huge difference. For example, the circular overhead handle is reminiscent of kettles from the 1970s, as is the elongated stainless steel spout. The colours will also bring back memories - there's black (pictured), cream and copper.

In terms of features, the kettle has many of the standard ones, but also some non-standard ones. First of all, it's a fast boil kettle, meaning there's very little waiting time. Other features include an easy pour spout, an ergonomic handle, a filter, a power indicator and a 360 degree base. We go into detail later.

The compact construction makes the kettle strong and sturdy. The body is made from lightweight stainless steel and the entire kettle is BPA free, putting to rest any fears of chemical leaching. The kettle has been designed so that it's resistant to rust, which extends its longevity.

• Capacity - 1.7 Litres. This works out at about 6-8 cups, making the kettle suitable for large families.
• Dimensions - 21cm x 24cm x 29cm.
• Fast Boil - Through the use of a 3kW heating element, the kettle achieves a rapid boil. Exceedingly long waiting times will become a distant memory.
• Ergonomic Handle - As can be seen from the above pictures, the metal handle is coated in plastic with grooves for your fingers to go. This handle resists heat and also provides a comfortable grip.
• Water Window - There's a water window on the side of the kettle. It allows you to see how much water is inside. In this instance, it's easier to read than normal because the kettle is pyramid shaped, so the water window is slanted.
• Illuminating Power Indicator - A power indicator will illuminate when the kettle is turned on.
• 360 Degree Base. - The kettle boils on a 360 degree base. Such a base is convenient as using the kettle is simply a matter of placing it down and picking it back up again.
• Integrated Cord Storage - If any extra electrical cable is left over, it can be safety tucked away underneath the base.
• Boil Dry Protection - If the water level becomes dangerously low during the boiling process, the boil dry protection will kick in and turn off the heating element.

Limescale Filter

The Boston Kettle has a limescale filter designed to prevent limescale and other large particles from entering your cup. It's removable and washable, so it can be reused. A filter such as this is essential in the UK as most places have hard tap water.

Water Gauge

On the water window is a water gauge which marks 1.2L, 1.5L and 1.7L. It allows you to fill the kettle with the amount of water you actually require, meaning a shorter boiling time and also a better looking energy bill.

Our View

Overall, the Haden Boston Kettle achieves its purpose of having a traditional design with many modern features. We particularly like how well the pyramid shape works with the overhead handle and lift off lid to create that classic feel. We also like the rapid boil feature and the comfortable grip handle.
